Just like anything, there are levels of understanding. Like in school, you start at a lower grade and move up as you learn new things.
In the Rocket Team, we have levels of training that determine what we can do when we go outside our vehicle or base.
Some people call it a "spacewalk" or a "moonwalk." We call it an "EVA," which stands for Extravehicular Activity.
So, here are the levels:
Level 1
The astronaut is qualified to perform orbital operations while tethered at all times to the orbital vehicle.
Level 2
The astronaut is qualified to perform orbital operations both tethered and untethered.
Level 3
The astronaut is qualified to perform planetary exploration on foot.
Level 4
The astronaut is qualified to perform planetary exploration with ground-based vehicles.
Level 5
The astronaut is qualified to perform planetary exploration with flying vehicles.
Trainer
The astronaut is qualified to train other astronauts in EVA operations.
Master Trainer
The astronaut is qualified to train other trainers in EVA operations.
