Diving on Titan

The planet Saturn is the beautiful queen of our solar system. And it is fitting that her moon Titan should be the most exceptional moon in the solar system.

Titan is the only one out of 150 known moons with a thick atmosphere. Titan’s cold, hazy atmosphere is made mostly of nitrogen, like Earth’s.

Viktor Vanson (we call him Veevee) is our EVA coach. He's hugely cool,
and he's got over 160 hours logged in a spacesuit.
He helped design a special suit to go into Titan's frigid lakes.

Titan is the only place besides Earth where we have found clouds, rain, rivers, lakes and seas. Instead of liquid water (it's way too cold - minus 290 degrees Fahrenheit, minus 179 Celsius), Titan has liquid hydrocarbons like methane and ethane.

The largest seas are hundreds of feet deep and hundreds of miles wide. Maybe its lakes and seas of liquid hydrocarbons could be home to a whole new kind of life.

That life would be very different from Earth life since it would not have access to liquid water. So, of course, the Rocket Team sent people to dive in these frigid, mysterious lakes.
