Daniello and the Rail Gun

I have an older cousin from Colombia named Daniello. He is also on the Rocket Team, and he specializes in lunar engineering. His last big project was testing out a rail gun launching system on the moon.



A rail gun is like a railroad track that angles up into the sky instead of following along the ground.

You can accelerate a payload (like a big canister of lunar ore, or a crew module filled with miners) into orbit if you shoot it fast enough down this rail!

This kind of launcher won't work on planets like Earth and Venus that have high gravity and thick atmospheres. But it works fine on the airless moon with only one-sixth gravity.
