October 5: International Observe the Moon Night

This event occurs each year in September or October, when the Moon is around first quarter.

The best lunar observing is typically along the Moon's terminator (the line between night and day) where shadows are the longest.

The shadows highlight the terrain features like craters and mountains.

Below is a sample moon image from Mickey Kulp, creator of the Rocket Team series of children's picture books.  He is creating an educational space art book suitable for all ages - even adults.

Three cargo ships have arrived in orbit over Mondstadt.
This German city on the Moon lights up as the lunar surface slowly rolls toward a night that lasts for two weeks.
Mondstadt (German for “Moon city”) reminds Ramone of a jewel on a black velvet cloth.
