Luckily for citizens of the exoplanet, the ravenous black hole passed by quickly, leaving enough mass for the star to continue shining.
But this terrifying event was a wake-up call for the people. They realized they needed to spread out into the galaxy so that a future cosmic catastrophe would not wipe out all of them.
They began to work together to solve this problem. It took many lifetimes, but they succeeded.
Eventually, they became star wanderers, not tied to any planet. They roamed in huge ships made from asteroids.
Maybe they visited solar systems with other intelligent beings?
