(This is part of a "Captain Kemp" series I am doing for fun. )
Captain Kemp had been pushing for an asteroid mission since back in '21. He was sick of the moon route ("It's like I'm some kinda bus driver!").
They say be careful what you wish for. After making big news with "our" wormhole, the corporation gave him a ship and crew launching from Mars.We lost our first crewmate, a scientist with little off-ship experience, within a week of arriving at the main asteroid belt. By the time Captain Kemp got to her, it was all over.
We found a crevasse in an unnamed asteroid and interred her there. A day later, Kemp sent a request to IAU to name the asteroid "Peggy Sue." I hope they do it.
Inspired by the movie "Moon Zero Two", Hammer Films, 1969.
