We stay really busy on Mars, and I hit the bed hard at night. But, sometimes I have time to watch the sun set.
During the day, I can almost believe that I'm on some desert landscape on Earth, even though the day sky is not blue - it's kinda yellowish. You get used to that.
But the sunset sky is blue. And that reminds me of home, and all the lonely miles back to the blue skies of Honduras.
I learned that the Martian atmosphere has fine dust particles that let blue light travel through the atmosphere easier.
So blue colors in the mixed light coming from the Sun stay closer to the Sun's part of the sky, and other colors scatter and fade.
And anytime I get too homesick, I can count on Pip and my other friends to pull me out of it with a corny joke like:
My teacher asked me if I like sunrises or sunsets better.
I said, "They both have their ups and downs."
