Mariner Valley

Mars has a huge canyon called Mariner Valley; it's also called Valles Marineris if you like to use the fancy Latin name. It runs along the Martian equator, and it is 4000 km (2500 mi) long! That's as long as the whole United States on Earth, and it circles 1/5th of the entire distance around Mars!

That's crazy big!

I was there with some Rocket Team scientists to determine if Valles Marineris is a massive crack that formed as the planet cooled (not by water - like the Grand Canyon on Earth).

We explored right along the edge to take some rock samples and launch a mapping drone (which also made this picture).
