Cleanup Crew

Last month, we took some new students on an orientation hike around Jezero Crater, and Pip said, "I just got a picture from the Canadian station. One of the observers said we are close to some lander debris."

Since it was nearby, we loped over and found a parachute and backshell from a recent Chinese lander.

Quinyang confirmed it was Chinese. "This is the latest Hope lander," she said, pointing to the Chinese characters painted on the backshell.

"Well, I hope they have good luck," I quipped, stressing the word "hope."

"I hope we can drag this stuff back to Gordo Station," Quinyang said, also stressing the word "hope."

"I hope we get back before dark," Pip said. "We're hosting Hab 9 for games tonight, remember?"

We all smiled and, with the new students helping, we got the debris back home for reuse and recycling. Gotta keep Mars clean.

What would you do to reuse some lander debris? Tell me at
