All Rocket Team astronaut candidates are required to pass a swimming test. They must do the following:
1. Swim three lengths of a 25-meter pool without stopping.
2. Swim three lengths of the pool in a flight suit and tennis shoes.
3. Be able to tread water for 10 minutes wearing a flight suit.
4. Later, they become SCUBA qualified to prepare for spacewalk training.
If you can't swim this much, it's ok. Keep practicing, and you'll be able to do it one day. Always make sure you swim in a safe area with a lifeguard present.
Remember the Rocket Team motto: "Keep Trying."
An astronaut practices how to exit a crew module that has landed in the water. She is a good swimmer, and she has a lifeguard nearby making sure she is safe. |
